This puzzle is a variation of an old disentanglement puzzle. As in most cases, the objective of this puzzle is to free the dark brown ring. The improvement of this puzzle consists of an additional rope-ring-construction that acts as an obstacle for the dark brown ring to be removed. In addition to that the rope that goes into the wooden slice is very short. In fact, this restrics the normal way of removing the ring. According to this short rope, the puzzle was given the name "Narrow Escape".
