This is a very old concept and design. There exists a well known puzzle that consists of three identical pieces which only can be (dis-)assembled by horizontally sliding all three pieces at the same time - this is called "coordinated motion". I asked myself if it is possible to make a puzzle that uses not only three but four pieces. ... and voilà, this puzzle was born. Here a few steps while disassembling it:
